XDefiant Season 3 final content drop brings new factions, maps, weapons and progression systems before 2025 shutdown
Final Season Overview
XDefiant’s ultimate seasonal update has arrived, delivering substantial new content despite the impending server closure announcement. This Season 3 expansion represents Ubisoft’s final major investment in the free-to-play shooter before services conclude in June 2025.
While XDefiant prepares to sunset operations next year, the development team has committed to delivering this comprehensive final content package. The Season 3 update serves as both a farewell gesture to dedicated players and a final opportunity to experience the game’s evolving mechanics.
Following an impressive launch that attracted millions of participants, player engagement has significantly declined, prompting Ubisoft’s decision to terminate support. The June 3, 2025 shutdown date allows current enthusiasts to enjoy these final additions through multiple seasons.
This culminating update brings substantial content including two entirely new Factions, multiple maps, weapon additions, and systemic improvements that refine the core gameplay experience for remaining players.
Below you’ll find the comprehensive breakdown of XDefiant Season 3 modifications and additions, directly from the development team:
New Factions Deep Dive
New Faction: Assassins
Operating covertly throughout history, the Assassin brotherhood has maintained their secret conflict against Templar adversaries to protect human autonomy. These operatives blend extensive martial training, specialized weaponry, and heightened situational awareness to identify and eliminate targets. Their distinctive Hidden Blade delivers instant melee takedowns.
Assassin operatives receive tactical direction from Rebecca Crane, the brilliant engineer responsible for creating the Animus 2.0 technology. This advanced system enables genetic memory exploration and previously guided notable Assassin members including Desmond Miles. Under Crane’s leadership, the faction operates from shadows to advance liberty, confronting oppression with decisive force.
Former special operations personnel who turned renegade, the Wolves faction utilizes Skell Technology drones for offensive and defensive operations. Their signature trait renders them undetectable to artificial intelligence systems and equipment. The Legion drone functions as an intelligent proximity explosive, while the Stolas operates as a movable turret platform. Their ultimate Drone Swarm ability provides definitive area control.
New Faction: Blood Dragon
Extremely lethal cyber-enhanced soldiers from an apocalyptic future where biomechanical and mutated entities conflict. Utilize enhanced physical capabilities, deploy throwing stars, execute shock-powered strikes, or activate the Killstar laser system to inflict significant damage.
Resolved multiple technical issues with Cleaners’ Incinerator Drone during DedSec Hijack operations:
The drone no longer detonates adjacent to the player who commandeered it.
The drone now generates a continuous fire path returning to its deployment location.
Eliminated the 50% flash grenade duration reduction penalty
AEGIS – Corrected targeting registration problems at extremely close distances.
Blitz – Enhanced mobility speed to genuinely execute rapid assault tactics.
Spiderbots 2.0 – Based on community feedback, DedSec’s frustrating facial proximity electro-minions have been reconfigured from direct engagement threats to area denial tools. When activated, Spiderbots will now consistently follow their deploying operator for 30 seconds, generating an electromagnetic field that disables enemy equipment within 10 meters. This concludes the era of Spiderbot direct facial attacks.
Fixed a technical problem that would immobilize the ability when activated immediately following weapon switching
This should now properly register damage application across varying elevation levels
Enhanced weapon control and ammunition reload velocity
Ability recharge decreased to 40 seconds
Addressed damage calculation inconsistencies
Map Additions & Improvements
Mykonos (Arena): Experience the Greek island environment as ancient inhabitants did, now featuring intensified rooftop combat scenarios in this Season 3 addition. Navigation includes sprinting past market locations, securing elevated positions for tactical advantage, and traversing boat decks for high-risk flanking approaches.
Animus Anomaly (Tactical): Historical settings converge in Animus Anomaly, a new confined layout map for Season 3. Defend positions within Viking fortifications, maneuver through ancient Greek waterways, or experience explosive conclusions in the new Defuse tactical iteration of BOMB! mode.
New Future Maps – These environments were planned for subsequent seasons but provided sufficient enjoyment to warrant immediate release!
Modified invisible collision detection and regions where players could access restricted map areas.
Adjusted specific maps where scrap turrets were being positioned in unauthorized locations.
DUMBO has received holiday-themed decorative enhancements
Players can no longer scale and access supposedly inaccessible map regions where they utilized El Remedio for ally healing and other exploitation tactics.
Multiple maps have received climbing mechanic refinements that should now function correctly in various locations that previously experienced issues.
Enhanced map selection voting mechanisms
Gameplay & Mode Updates
This season introduces Defuse, a strategic and methodical alternative to BOMB! mode. Teams alternate between bomb placement and defense rotations, with all participants having single-life limitations. Defuse is specifically designed for the new “corridor” map classification, currently represented by the Animus Anomaly created exclusively for this mode category.
Players now have Bot Opposition options featuring varying artificial intelligence difficulty levels. Participants will accumulate experience points through bot engagements, though at a reduced rate compared to human opponents.
Capture them when possible, Lums (pure energy entities possessing remarkably cheerful dispositions) have been positioned throughout the Enchanted Forest map in this Hot Shot variation. Also accessible through Private Match configurations.
Now integrated into Linear playlists, this mode involves simultaneous competition over Carlos the robot displacement.
Achieve victory through enhanced jumping mechanics in this low-gravity game variant.
New Party Modes Playlist
Featuring single-shot elimination, headshot-only limitations, and ability restrictions, this playlist offers diverse experiences for all preferences. With unconventional naming conventions, we encourage creative interpretation.
Comprehensive team balancing overhaul to ensure equitable matchmaking.
Multiple quality-of-life enhancements to BOMB! spectator camera systems.
Bomb planting and defusing behaviors improved to prevent conflicts with other game features like scoreboard navigation.
Resolved an issue causing lobby menu display failure after party invitation acceptance.
Now permits manual server region selection.
With Ability Limitations remaining active, we’ve implemented single-ability usage per life restrictions.
Ranked BOMB! round timer adjusted from 2 minutes to 1 minute 30 seconds, explosive device timings modified, and Round 11 victory determined by highest scoring team.

Implemented new menu interface allowing simultaneous match searching and ranked menu navigation for reward tracking, information access, and leaderboard viewing.
Eliminated Domination and Capture the Flag from Ranked playlists.
Weapons & Equipment Balance
FAMAS – The FAMAS operates as a burst-fire assault rifle similar to the M16A4 but featuring improved aim-down-sights speed, mobility, and firing rate. It experiences slower reload procedures and reduced per-shot damage output.
MG5 – Despite constrained effective range and ammunition capacity compared to other belt-fed light machine guns, the MG5’s elevated rate of fire creates a potent and adaptable selection for operators who can control its substantial recoil patterns.
M1A – A nimble classic optimized for intermediate distance engagements, the M1A provides rapid firing capability but delivers reduced damage per projectile compared to alternative marksman rifles.
Sawed-off Shotgun Balance Adjustment
The effective range and damage capacity of the Sawed-Off Shotgun have been recalibrated to better align with its designated function as close-quarters finishing tool and prevent single-shot eliminations against full-health opponents.
Close Range decreased from 8m -> 6m
Intermediate Range decreased from 12m -> 10m
Close Range Damage reduced from 12 -> 11
Projectiles Per Round decreased from 12 -> 9
Modified smoke grenade visual effects so cosmetic skin components no longer appear through smoke clouds, while enhancing smoke particle dimensions, formation, transparency, and effect radius.
Adjusted camera vibration to correlate with explosion proximity. Eliminated allied explosion camera disturbance.
Introduced the Tapered Barrel, a weapon attachment for numerous firearms that improves handling performance but reduces damage output. These are the advantages and disadvantages:
25 percent improvement to sprint transition time
15 percent aim-down-sights speed enhancement
5 percent movement velocity increase
20 percent close-range damage reduction
20 percent intermediate-range damage reduction
10 percent aimed movement speed decrease
Essentially, this barrel attachment facilitates quicker map navigation but typically requires additional successful shots to secure eliminations.
New Reticle Customization
New Season 3 feature: Customizable aiming reticles. Players can acquire new reticle configurations and modify their colors (beneficial for colorblind participants). Custom reticles will associate with specific loadout configurations.
Fixed graphical anomaly allowing weapon barrel visibility through Reflex and Holographic sights.
Resolved delayed magazine animation during weapon reload sequences.
Corrected floating artifacts when utilizing left-handed abilities and reload actions.
Fixed missing scope crosshair during spectating mode aim-down-sights.
Multiple weapon skins have received sight adjustments to correspond with base weapon characteristics.
Various visual enhancements
Progression & Customization
Introducing Prestige, an optional advanced progression framework that rewards persistent dedication with distinctive cosmetics and elaborate emblems demonstrating player experience. Accessible to participants who have completed Base Challenges, Prestige resets advancement progress in return for visually striking Prestige Emblems. All initial and acquired weapons become locked – excluding the M4, M9, and fragmentation grenade – but can be reacquired as players accumulate experience and Prestige Tokens to restore original equipment plus new firearms until completing the current Prestige Tier and obtaining the subsequent emblem. Players may discontinue Prestige participation anytime and regain their armaments, or persist toward unlocking the ultimate Prestige Emblem, the definitive dedication demonstration.
Badges represent an enigmatic challenge-based advancement system where participants earn Badges for accomplishing impressive achievements and engaging with game mechanics creatively. All Badge requirements remain concealed, promoting community interaction and online collaboration. Badges can undergo evolution, demanding repeated challenge completion with progressively difficult success criteria.
Enables character advancement, prestigious reward acquisition, and progression monitoring within the game environment
Pristine Weapon Mastery Skin
A new Pristine Weapon Mastery cosmetic unlocks at weapon level 50 as an initial incentive to pursue Weapon Mastery objectives. These Pristine finishes resemble immaculate, factory-fresh weapon versions. Pristine cosmetics automatically apply to any firearms that have previously reached level 50.
Daily Rewards and Credits
Participants can now obtain various rewards simply through daily game access. Enhanced rewards distribute every 5th and 10th login instance. Consecutive days are not mandatory.
Credits represent a completely new in-game monetary system. Utilize Credits to purchase cosmetics from earlier seasons, providing opportunities to acquire previously missed cosmetic items.
Certain Challenges, especially those involving faction characters, experienced progression tracking issues on primary menus, which have now been resolved.
Combat announcer dialogue frequency has been adjusted:
Death streak notifications (multiple consecutive deaths without eliminations) activate less frequently (now requiring five deaths instead of three, with activation limited to match second halves).
Fire damage related dialogue (from Purifier, Firebomb, Incendiary Drone – essentially any Cleaners-related incendiary sources) triggers less often.
Phantoms – Blitz – Now includes audio cues for melee attack deflection and Blitz Shield offensive actions.
GSK – Hardhat – Enhanced audio feedback for successful headshot impacts
Highwaymen – M79 – Now features audio confirmation for successful hits and impact registration with the M79.
