Complete guide to The First Descendant 1.1.3 hotfix with character buffs, new modules, and quality of life improvements
Patch Overview and Major Changes
The First Descendant’s latest 1.1.3 hotfix delivers substantial gameplay adjustments that fundamentally reshape the Season 1 experience. This update serves as a crucial preparation phase for the upcoming Ultimate Freyna storyline while addressing several community-requested quality of life improvements.
Season 1 previously introduced two fresh playable characters, additional weapon options, and integrated the Ultimate Freyna narrative into the official roadmap. These additions have significantly altered the competitive landscape, causing notable shifts in Descendant tier rankings and optimal team compositions.
Nexon’s newest patch focuses on enhancing three existing Descendants—Freyna, Kyle, and Esiemo—with comprehensive skill buffs that improve their viability in endgame content. The update also introduces two innovative weapon modules and finally implements the long-awaited Public Operations functionality for Invasion missions, enabling more dynamic cooperative gameplay.
For players wondering how these changes affect their current builds: Freyna mains will need to adapt to completely reworked status effect mechanics, while Kyle and Esiemo users can expect more reliable performance in high-level content. The meta is likely to shift toward more aggressive shield-based builds with the introduction of the new modules.
Gameplay and Mission Improvements
- The number of monsters increases depending on the number of participants.
- Order of Truth – Interacting with a drone now makes other drones despawn.
- Expanded the terrain.
- Additional snipers has been placed for the second round.
- Sterile Land – Unknown Laboratory (Hard)
- Agna Desert – Caligo Ossuary (Normal, Hard), The Asylum (Normal, Hard)
- White-night Gulch – Bio-Lab (Normal, Hard)
- Hagios – The Haven (Normal, Hard), Old Mystery (Normal, Hard)
The Public Operations addition represents a major quality of life improvement for group players. The scaling enemy mechanics ensure that bringing additional teammates doesn’t trivialize content, while the drone despawning fix in Order of Truth eliminates frustrating moments where multiple drones would interfere with objective completion.
Strategic tip: For optimal resource farming, focus on areas with increased scout monster spawns since the enhanced HP orb and ammo drops significantly improve sustainability during extended farming sessions. The terrain expansions in Fortress maps provide more tactical positioning options against the additional sniper placements.
Character Skill Overhauls
Improved certain skills of Freyna, Kyle, and Esiemo.
- Fixed an issue where the “Room 0 Trauma” was set as “Poison”, making it impossible to deal damage to the Toxic Colossus.
- The effects of ‘Contagion Links’ have been changed as follows:
- Killing an enemy inflicted with ‘Room 0 Trauma’ has chances to spawn a ‘Toxic Puddle’ on the place where the enemy was killed.
- Enemies receive damage and get inflicted with ‘Room 0 Trauma’ upon contact with the ‘Toxic Puddle.’
- The damage of ‘Room 0 Trauma’ has been increased, and it has been adjusted to apply the ‘Toxic Reaction’ effect instead of ‘Poison.’
- The ‘Toxic Reaction’ effect deals more damage compared to the previous ‘Poison’ effect and can be applied simultaneously with ‘Panic’, ‘Despair’, ‘Decay’, and ‘Nightmare’ effects.
Freyna’s complete status effect overhaul transforms her from a single-target specialist into an area control powerhouse. The shift from Poison to multiple stacking effects (Toxic Reaction, Panic, Despair, Decay, Nightmare) enables complex damage combinations that reward strategic ability sequencing.
- Decreased its Shield Recovery. In exchange, the Cooldown has been decreased.
- You now recover a certain amount of Magnetic Force upon the activation even if no enemies are hit by the effect. Meanwhile, you will recover more Magnetic Force depending on the number of enemies hit.
- Decreased the Stack Cooldown while increasing the Damage.
- While using the skill, you now recover Magnetic Force by a certain percentage of Max Shield over time. The Shield Cost while using the skill has also been slightly increased.
- The barrier from ‘Magnetic Bulwark’ is now affected by Kyle’s Attribute Resistance, and the barrier’s HP is now more proportional to Kyle’s shield.
- Increased the Cooldown of ‘Magnetic Bulwark’.
Kyle’s defensive capabilities receive significant quality of life improvements. The Magnetic Force regeneration changes make his shield management more consistent, while the barrier scaling with Attribute Resistance creates powerful synergy with defensive gear investments. These adjustments position Kyle as a more reliable tank option for challenging endgame content.
- Skills can now be used while sprinting, and the after-cast delay has been adjusted. The projectile speed has also been slightly increased.
- You can now switch to other actions earlier when using the skill.
- It no longer costs MP, and the Cooldown has been decreased.
- The ‘Blast’ skill is now affected by more bombs, and increased the damage based on the number of bombs.
- The ‘Explosives’ that spawn upon using the ‘Cluster Bomb’ skill now explodes earlier than before. The number and damage of ‘Explosives’ have been increased, and the Explosion Range has been reduced.
- The damage of ‘Cluster Bomb’ now increases based on the number of bombs.
Esiemo’s explosive arsenal receives crucial mobility and damage improvements. The ability to use skills while sprinting dramatically improves his combat flow, while the bomb count scaling on Blast and Cluster Bomb creates rewarding damage ramping for skilled players. The reduced explosion ranges encourage more precise placement rather than spam tactics.
Common mistake to avoid: Don’t overlook the interaction between Esiemo’s various bomb skills—the increased number of bombs affecting Blast means proper skill rotation is more important than ever for maximizing damage output.
New Modules and Game Systems
Two new Modules have been added.
- Reduces HP Recovery from HP orbs by a certain amount and instead heals the shield by the said amount.
- When using a skill to attack enemies, consumes all of your shield to deal additional damage equivalent to a certain percentage of the total damage.
- The additional damage has a base value, and the value increases based on the amount of shield consumed.
- After activation, recovers Shield by a certain percentage of Max Shield every second for a certain period of time. It has a Cooldown.
- Recommended stats include Weapon DPS, Max HP, Max Shield, DEF, and Resistance per Attribute.
- In order to dismantle an Ultimate Weapons, you need to manually designate it as junk.
The Bio Sync Shield module revolutionizes shield-based builds by converting health recovery into shield regeneration. This enables tankier Descendants to maintain their primary defense layer more consistently, particularly valuable for characters like Kyle who rely heavily on shield mechanics.
Last Stand introduces a high-risk, high-reward playstyle perfect for burst damage specialists. The shield consumption mechanic demands careful resource management but rewards players with substantial damage amplification. Optimal use involves timing this module with other damage-boosting abilities for maximum effect.
The new Intercept Battle stat recommendations provide crucial guidance for players tackling endgame content. These benchmarks help prevent frustrating failures by ensuring your Descendant meets the necessary durability and damage thresholds before engaging challenging bosses.
Advanced optimization tip: Combine Bio Sync Shield with high shield capacity builds and the newly fixed Shield Recovery Modifier stats on supporting Descendants for nearly unbreakable defensive setups.

Now you can rewatch cinematics after finishing the story with the Hailey you’ve acquired or the Ultimate Descendant you’ve worked hard to get. Get a more vivid look at your own Descendant, customized with various skins and paints, in high-quality cinematics.

- Removed a restriction where the option could only be enabled on a 120Hz display on consoles.
