12 Most Anticipated Game Reveals We’re Hoping to See at PlayStation’s May State of Play Event
Introduction: The Summer of Games Kicks Off
The gaming season officially launches as Sony prepares for their May 30 State of Play presentation, setting the stage for an exciting summer of announcements and reveals.
Sony’s timing couldn’t be better – with the Summer of Games period beginning, this State of Play serves as the perfect catalyst for what promises to be an action-packed season of gaming news and reveals.
According to PlayStation’s official announcement, the broadcast kicks off Thursday at 3 pm PT / 11 pm BST, featuring substantial updates across 14 different PS5 and PS VR2 titles that will capture the attention of the entire gaming community.
The anticipation has reached fever pitch among our editorial team, compelling us to compile this comprehensive wishlist of announcements we’re most eager to see during the upcoming presentation.
Our carefully curated selection spans from long-awaited sequels that fans have been demanding for years to exciting new intellectual properties that could define the next generation of PlayStation gaming experiences.
Highly Anticipated Sequels
Death Stranding 2: Kojima’s Next Masterpiece
Since its initial release, Death Stranding developed an intensely dedicated fanbase captivated by its cinematic presentation, unconventional world-building, and emotionally charged narrative that resonated deeply with players worldwide.
The ten-minute gameplay segment revealed back in February provided just enough to whet our appetites, leaving us desperate for additional details and potentially a concrete release window. Five years feels like an eternity since Hideo Kojima last shared his uniquely visionary concepts with the gaming world.

Resident Evil 9: The Next Horror Chapter
Historical patterns strongly suggest Capcom will choose a Sony event to unveil the frequently rumored Resident Evil 9, continuing their tradition of announcing major franchise entries during PlayStation showcases.
With Resident Evil Village and its Shadows of Rose expansion providing closure to Ethan Winters’ storyline, the developers now have complete creative freedom to either pioneer fresh narrative directions or return to established protagonists. Persistent rumors point toward Leon Kennedy’s return, but regardless of the protagonist, we’re excited to discover what new terrors and trademark campy horror elements Resident Evil 9 will deliver.

Bloodborne 2: The Dream Continues
Yes, we’re resetting the counter once again! Predicting Bloodborne 2 appearances at PlayStation events has become something of a tradition, but this enduring hope stems from genuine craving for another masterpiece from FromSoftware’s gothic horror universe.
While Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion will temporarily satisfy our Soulsborne cravings, the unique cosmic horror atmosphere and aggressive combat rhythm of Bloodborne create an experience that remains unmatched. With FromSoftware presumably concluding major Elden Ring support, the timing feels perfect for announcing either a full sequel or even a PlayStation 5 enhanced remake of the original classic.

Franchise Returns and Revivals
Jak and Daxter: Nostalgic Comeback
The Jak and Daxter series absolutely dominated my PlayStation 2 gaming sessions, with the original trilogy remaining among my all-time favorite gaming experiences that I still revisit periodically for nostalgic comfort.
Whether through comprehensive remasters or an entirely new installment, I’m eagerly anticipating the return of the iconic duo that first put Naughty Dog on my personal radar. While Naughty Dog appears fully committed to The Last of Us franchise and new IP development, there remains possibility for another talented studio to resurrect this beloved franchise under proper supervision.

Silent Hill 2 Remake: Horror Reimagined
For those who shared my profound disappointment with the Silent Hill HD Collection and yearn to confront the psychologically disturbing creatures inhabiting America’s most fog-enshrouded town, news about the Silent Hill 2 remake cannot arrive soon enough.
January’s State of Play provided a tantalizing teaser showcasing the visual enhancements and gameplay improvements, along with James Sunderland’s controversial facial redesign that sparked considerable discussion. However, the absence of a release date leaves us hoping this upcoming showcase will finally reveal when we can revisit the nightmarish streets of Silent Hill.

Destiny 3: Beyond The Final Shape
Admittedly, this represents a substantial long-shot prediction, but credible rumors about development on Bungie’s next mainline franchise installment have begun circulating throughout the gaming community.
The recent reappearance of longtime Destiny lead Luke Smith provided reassurance that The Final Shape doesn’t conclude the franchise, with promises that Bungie will discuss future directions after concluding the Light and Dark saga. While timing might seem premature, clarifying that Destiny’s evolution continues beyond the current narrative arc could significantly strengthen community confidence in the franchise’s long-term viability.

Studio Updates and New Projects
Housemarque’s Next Project
Following their 2021 release of the ambitious Returnal on PlayStation 5, which established itself as one of the platform’s standout exclusive titles, Housemarque joined the PlayStation Studios family just one month later in a clear endorsement of their creative achievements.
The studio has maintained relative silence since the acquisition, presumably focusing intensely on their next project and inaugural release as an official PlayStation studio. While the project might not be ready for immediate release, the current landscape makes this an ideal moment for Housemarque to unveil their post-Returnal developments, especially given PlayStation’s relatively sparse exclusive lineup and ongoing criticism about genuine next-generation exclusives.

Marathon: Bungie’s Extraction Evolution
Marathon appears almost guaranteed to feature in the upcoming Sony presentation, particularly with Destiny 2: The Final Shape concluding its narrative arc and the community looking toward Sony’s newest acquisition’s future projects.
Strong rumors suggest a 2025 release timeframe, increasing the urgency for substantive reveals. While we’ve received stylistically impressive vibe-check trailers for Bungie’s extraction shooter venture, fundamental questions about gameplay mechanics, structural design, and visual presentation remain completely unanswered. The transition to a hero-based framework under former Valorant leadership suggests this project may diverge significantly from traditional Bungie formulas, which could represent either refreshing innovation or concerning departure depending on execution.

Returnal DLC/Sequel: Expanding the Cycle
Among PS5 exclusives, Returnal stands as my personal favorite despite not always receiving mainstream recognition. This title felt like the inaugural AAA roguelite experience, delivering exceptional quality across responsive controls, inventive weaponry, and a perplexing yet fascinating narrative structure.
The potential for further exploring Selene’s psychological trauma and mental landscape remains substantial, even through smaller-scale DLC content. Returnal absolutely warrants additional attention, and announcing either expansion content or a full sequel would perfectly accomplish this objective while delighting the game’s dedicated fanbase.

Insomniac Games Spotlight
Wolverine: The Adamantium Announcement
While Spider-Man 2 downloadable content remains highly requested (I’m certainly eager for additional adventures with Miles and Peter), we shouldn’t overlook Insomniac’s parallel development on a title featuring everyone’s favorite Canadian X-Man—no, not Deadpool, who technically isn’t an X-Men member—but rather the iconic Wolverine!
The project received official announcement back in 2021, but substantive updates have been scarce from legitimate channels since then. Unfortunately, the 2023 ransomware incident targeting Insomniac resulted in numerous early builds, conceptual artwork, and narrative details leaking online. Despite the distressing nature of this breach, Insomniac maintained that development would proceed unaffected, making this an opportune moment for an official story trailer or potentially even gameplay demonstrations.

Venom Spin-off or Spider-Man 2 DLC
Spider-Man 2 provided an excellent introduction to the Venom symbiote, but we’re now prepared for the substantial main course experience. Although Insomniac hasn’t formally announced a Venom-centric game, the previously mentioned security breach confirmed that standalone Venom development is indeed underway.
Development progress remains unclear, but we’d appreciate Insomniac sharing additional specifics about this project. In our most optimistic symbiotic fantasies, we envision a game structure similar to Spider-Man: Miles Morales, serving as an interquel bridging the mainline Spider-Man titles. If this proves accurate, we might anticipate release within the next two years, or alternatively see Venom featured in Spider-Man 2 expansion content.

PS Plus and Service Updates
FFVII Rebirth on PS Plus: Subscription Strategy Shift
PlayStation Plus delivers excellent value as a subscription service, though it lacks one crucial feature available through Game Pass: same-day release access for new titles. While Sony needn’t completely adopt this model given their exclusives’ strong sales performance regardless, adding FFVII Rebirth to the service shortly after launch would represent a monumental improvement.
This approach would benefit both players who haven’t purchased the game yet and Sony’s subscription numbers by featuring a flagship title to attract attention. Though perhaps optimistic, this scenario would generate tremendous excitement and potentially signal strategic evolution in Sony’s subscription service approach to better compete in the evolving gaming landscape.
