Spanish esports organization Team Heretics has unveiled a completely transformed Valorant competitive lineup for the upcoming season, signaling a strategic pivot toward developing emerging talent. The revamped squad features several fresh faces alongside returning players, with former Fortnite professional Benjy “BenjyFishy” David Fish taking center stage in this new configuration.

According to the official announcement released yesterday, the team’s composition now includes former S2G Esports competitor Enes “RieNs” Ecirli, Dominykas “MiniBoo” Lukaševičius, Turkish rising star Mert “Wo0t” Alkan, BenjyFishy making his professional Valorant debut, and Ričardas “Boo” Lukaševičius. This represents a significant departure from their previous roster structure.

The comprehensive roster restructuring coincides with the formal retirement announcement from Oscar “Mixwell” Cañellas, who revealed his departure from professional Valorant competition through social media channels. In his emotional farewell statement, Mixwell indicated he was embarking on “a new life chapter” and supplemented his announcement with an explanatory YouTube video detailing his career decision.

Heretics Make Major Changes for VCT 2024

Heretics implemented these sweeping changes following a roster that secured only eighth position in the previous competitive season. The organization recognized the urgent need for fundamental restructuring after disappointing results.

During the VCT EMEA League regular season, Heretics managed just two victories against seven defeats, resulting in automatic disqualification from advancing to the playoff tournament stage. Their competitive struggles continued at the Last Chance Qualifier for Champions, where regional rivals KOI delivered the final blow that eliminated Heretics from championship contention entirely.

Given the team’s consistently poor performance throughout the competitive year, marked by numerous decisive losses, this extensive roster reconstruction was virtually inevitable. Teams facing similar performance metrics typically undergo significant personnel changes to remain competitive in the evolving Valorant esports landscape.

Many of the newly signed players joining Heretics’ Valorant division lack extensive tier-one competitive experience but have demonstrated exceptional capabilities in lower-tier competitions. Wo0t specifically has garnered attention as one of the most promising emerging talents within the EMEA competitive region.

European professional Ardis Svarenieks publicly endorsed Wo0t’s potential last December through social media platforms, going so far as to predict his eventual recruitment by elite organizations like Fnatic, Natus Vincere, or Team Liquid based on his demonstrated skill ceiling and rapid development trajectory.

Heretics will return to competition in the VCT 2024 season with ambitions of qualifying for international tournaments. The upcoming competitive circuit commences in approximately three months, providing limited preparation time for the restructured team to develop competitive synergy.
